Artist Statement

I design animation using the software, Flash.   I was introduced to this program five years ago and have since then  been using it to produce animation  as well as to enhance other video pieces. Although making Flash animation is a time consuming process, I love animating 2D objects and adding sound to the narrative.  This follows my goal of using a visual form of language thus allowing people to communicate and experience ideas through the visual and audable.

There are four Flash animations in this body of work. Three are telling stories from Aesop’s fables, and one is telling stories that I created. The ceramic figurines that represent the characters from Aesop’s fables are displayed in order to get attention and physically invite the audience to the work. The animation with my original stories is inspired by the Aesop’s fables; I was amazed with Aesop’s ability to build a character by telling a simple short story. I decided to do that with my own ideas, and the challenge was to make the stories as short as possible but still create strong characters.
